"This is an image of a cancer cell that shows a protein formed from a cancer-causing chromosome re-arrangement in red, the response of the cell to radiation treatment in green, and DNA in blue. We were trying to understand how this cancer fusion protein from the t(15;19) chromosomal rearrangement affects the cell’s ability to respond to radiation treatment. We hope to find ways to make cancer cells more sensitive to radiation, and protect normal healthy cells from radiation side effects. This may also lead to better understanding of how cells become cancerous."
