This image is the surface of a freshly harvested pig’s tongue. The blue indicates the cells, the red indicates the nanoparticles that permeate into the tongue. We were examining the permeation of our chemotherapeutic nanoparticle in to the tongue for topical treatment of oral cancer. With oral HPV cancer on the rise, we are determined to develop a local anticancer treatment with very limited toxicity. This treatment can be much more effective than the current treatment and has the potential to significantly reduce the systemic side effects of chemotherapy.
