In order to combat liver disease, which affects over 1.3 billion people worldwide, we aim to create implantable satellite livers to replace lost liver function. These images show vascularized engineered human liver tissue that has self-organized into liver lobule-like microstructure and expanded more than 50-fold upon implantation into a mouse model of liver injury.
