The image shows the eye of a child who was born blind. The cause of blindness is a congenital cataract, an opacity of the lens. The opaque white lens is clearly visible in the eye’s pupil. This image was taken as part of Project Prakash, an initiative my lab launched to bring sight to congenitally blind children by providing them free surgeries, and also to study fundamental questions about brain plasticity and visual learning.
