A Novel Device for Personalized Cancer Treatment 1

This image is a combination of fluorescent labels to visualize and quantify the effects of chemotherapy on tumors derived from human ovarian cancer patients. A microdevice is loaded with small doses of chemotherapy and implanted in a tumor. The tumor is removed and the cells around the device are analyzed to understand which chemotherapies work best in that tumor type with its unique mix of cancer and healthy cells. This technique can be used in patients to personalize their treatment to what will work best for their tumor. In this image green represents tumor cells, blue represents surrounding cells, and red represents dead tumor cells where chemotherapy was released.
