This is a microscopic image of an entire thymus. The thymus is stained for a new type of cell that we discovered called the thymic microfold cell, using a protein marker called GP2. The bright white dots in the image are the microfold cells.

We wanted to understand their distribution in the thymus. As you can see in the image, it is clustered throughout central regions of the thymus called the thymic medulla.
