"These are human epithelial cells growing in a dish. They have been clonally labeled, meaning that cells of the same color are all offspring of the same cell at the time of labeling. By quantifying the proliferation of these cells, and determining what cell type they become, we hope to understand how proliferative potential is passed from a stem cell to its differentiated daughter cells."
