This image visualizes a cell type (neurons) that makes up the largest region of the human brain, called the forebrain. The forebrain is integral to information processing activities such as cognition (thinking, memory, language) and voluntary motor activities (conscious movements). The pseudo colors (green, red, and blue) represent the presence of proteins that are specifically found in those cells. The cells were developed from stem cells (derived from a patient’s skin cells) by adding various chemicals at different time points.
