We took this image to learn where an important glial protein (GAT) involved in epilepsy was located within the CNS. It’s part of our efforts to understand how glia and neurons signal in the brain, and how dysfunction of this pathway leads to epilepsy. It shows the widespread role of glia in controlling the levels of inhibitory neurotransmitters in the brain by controlling their uptake via specific neurotransmitter transporters.
